Saturday Breakfast
Seashore's Saturday Breakfast is a free event providing hot meals to more than 60 people each week.
Thanks to dedicated volunteers and generous donations, the Saturday Breakfast dishes up a hot and healthy way to start the day. And while food is the main course, there’s much more to this meal.
Unlike some charitable efforts, in this cafeteria-turned-gathering spot it’s difficult to tell the cooks from the consumers. And that’s by intent. Everyone who comes finds what they need — a cup of coffee, a friend, a meal, a place to serve.
Breakfast is free and open to all. Every Saturday, 9:30 - 10am, at the Waldport Community Learning Center.
The free meal draws people from throughout Lincoln County, serving struggling families, seniors on limited incomes, and those living on the edge without jobs or homes. While Oregon's central coast has historically grappled with the decline of the lumber and fishing industries, the area’s rising need now mirrors — and outpaces — the nation’s economic decline. Oregon has higher than national average rates for hunger and food insecurity, with nearly 12 percent of Oregon families going hungry, according to an Oregon Food Bank report. In addition, the U.S. Census reports from 2000 to 2005 Oregon’s poverty rate grew faster than California’s, Washington’s and the nation's.
