Seashore Garden
The Seashore Garden offers more than just plants. Located on the grounds of the Waldport Community Learning Center, the garden is a gathering place and outdoor learning space, serving as a “classroom” for hands-on lessons in science, environment, arts, writing, and more.
For writing students, the garden is a feast for the senses. Students examine taste, textures and scents while crafting poems and stories.
For young tots, the garden is a natural play area — soft, sensory and magical.
For hungry students, the garden is a valuable food source. Students harvest lettuces, tomatoes and more, and then learn how to turn the veggies into healthy meals.
And for adults, the garden is a tool to connect with families in the community.
Windermere digs in
Windermere Real Estate brokers showed up shovel-ready at the Seashore Literacy Garden on June 18th.
To mark Community Service Day, over a dozen real estate professionals gave Seashore a helping hand. The happy and hardworking volunteers — from Windermere's Seal Rock and Newport offices — trimmed trees, pruned shrubs, weeded perimeters, graveled pathways, cleaned sheds and built new garden beds.
Since 1984, Windermere associates have dedicated a work day to complete neighborhood improvement projects. This year they chose Seashore Family Literacy.
"Our work is not about houses," notes Michael Smith, broker-owner. "It's about people."
